About Faultedlines
Plan for life, not perfection. Stay ready. Stay you.
Every crack tells a story. Every fault line is a map of where you’ve been and proof that you kept going. That’s the idea behind Faultedlines, a brand built on the belief that imperfection isn’t something to hide, it’s something to celebrate.
Hi, I’m Samantha, aka Sami, the creator behind Faultedlines, based in San Jose, CA. What started as a research project turned into a love letter to the planners, the dreamers, the disaster-preppers, and crafters around the world.
Where It All Began: The Emergency Planner
During my Master’s program, I discovered my passion for helping people plan for life, not perfection. I was teaching natural hazards and realized that while research was valuable, I wanted to see how it could actually help people feel more prepared and grounded in their everyday lives.
During my Master’s program, I discovered my passion for helping people plan for life, not perfection. I was teaching natural hazards and realized that while research was valuable, I wanted to see how it could actually help people feel more prepared and grounded in their everyday lives.
That’s how The Emergency Planner was born, a practical, thoughtfully designed tool to help people feel ready without the overwhelm. Because being prepared shouldn’t feel stressful, it should feel empowering.
I brought this together by creating guides, or Game Plans, organized into different types of households. This way, it is personalized to your life.
Slice of Life, Designed for You
Beyond planners, Faultedlines is home to products that reflect the everyday moments that make us who we are. From our 'I am a ...' name tag stickers to our Daily Insert Notepads, everything we make is designed to help you stay ready, stay grounded, and stay you, even when life feels a little chaotic.
The Hearth: Where Creativity Feels like Home
At the center of Faultedlines is The Hearth, a cozy creative space where ideas spark, stories unfold, and community warmth keeps everything glowing. It’s where I create alongside Jane, Soy, and Tart, each bringing their own spark to the fire.
Jane is the adventure-loving extrovert, always chasing new ideas and reminding us to step outside our comfort zones. Soy is the cafe-hopper ambivert, happiest with a notebook, a latte, and good conversation. And Tart is the homebody introvert, the quiet heart of the group who finds beauty in stillness and slow moments.
Together, they embody the spirit of Faultedlines, a mix of calm, chaos, and creativity that somehow just works.
Every person who joins our community adds their own warmth to The Hearth. It’s not just a place, it’s a feeling, a reminder that creativity thrives when shared, and that even in the messiest moments, there’s beauty in simply showing up as yourself.
A Community, Not Just a Shop
Faultedlines grew out of curiosity, community, and a lot of late nights. Expanding on what I have created with the brand, each person brings a warmth to The Hearth, the center of Faultedlines, and a cozy place to create alongside Jane, Soy, and Tart. Without this community, my creativity would still exist, but it wouldn’t feel the same without the warmth of every interaction.
From our first Kickstarter to every order since, this brand has been shaped by the people who believe in it, including you.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for embracing your own faulted lines and planning for life, not perfection.
With love and chaotic creativity,
Sami & the JST Crew

Founder - Scientist/Crafter
Hi, I’m Sami Hamada. I hold a bachelor's degree in Earth Science with an emphasis in Geology, and a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies combining Geology and Mass Communications. Through my years of studies, my curiosity about how the world works has always gone hand in hand with my love for stationery, creativity, and storytelling.
That mix of science and art inspired me to create Faultedlines, a space where I bring together my passions for exploration, design, and creative expression. Through my work, I aim to encourage others to stay curious, experiment boldly, and find beauty in the process of discovery.
When I’m not working on new projects, you’ll probably find me travelling, climbing, crafting with journals, or getting lost in music. Every adventure, creative experiment, and conversation fuels the ideas I share through my business.
Faultedlines isn’t just what I do, it’s part of who I am — a reflection of my belief that creativity and curiosity can transform the way we see the world.
